If you’re in Nairobi today, well, probably half of your organs are frozen! For devoted introverts like myself, this weather is our sweetspot. I would comfortably live in Europe (I mean Iceland⛄) without thinking twice! There’s something about cold, drabby weather that gets my juices flowing and stirs up my creative gene. That hot cup of cocoa and blanket wrapped around my legs provoke my inner genius to come out and play!
So recently I woke up and decided I needed to spruce up my house a little bit. I currently (note the emphasis, because this is a temporal sich, though its been 5.5 years 😂) live in a one-bedroom apartment that many people politely refer to as cozy, which is the synonym for super tiny- I appreciate y’all for the sensitivity 💕. I’ve had a couple of wall hangings that fell off from the wall and I decided to put them up and do some wall art rearranging just to give it a different look and feel.
Once my coffee kicked in, off I went. My amazing and reliable DIY neighbour Ivy lent me her hammer and wall pins and I begun pounding and hammering- probably to the dismay of my neighbours who still work from home. At the end, it was all worth it and my house got a new lease of life. (Nope, no pics for you! 😸)
The reason I decided to blog about this was the sheer joy this activity brought me. Such a mundane, basic activity brightened my day and gave me an unusual sense of accomplishment. This challenged a belief I’ve had most of my life and I believe many people still have – that we must do a ton of heavy lifting everyday to feel we have meaningfully contributed to the world and to think we deserve our weekend rest …… well that’s Stone Age thinking!
If the past two years have taught me anything, it’s to find my joy and happiness from within. We aren’t defined by our career, bank balance, neighbourhood, the car we drive or anything material for that matter. What’s inside of us is more important than what we own. I’ve learnt to find bliss in the most ordinary things, the run-of-the-mill kinda stuff like taking my morning coffee, listening to a podcast, taking a hot shower, etc.
So today folks, don’t kill yourself trying to carry the world on your shoulders. It’s not yours to carry. Do what you can, to the best of your knowledge and leave the rest to God. He manages the universe without your help….. so take a chill pill and calm down. Lastly, look around you and find something today that will bring you joy and choose to enjoy it. It could be as simple as savouring that lunch- take your time to actually enjoy the meal, put your phone away and connect with every spoonful melting in your mouth, think how the taste and the smell of the food makes you feel……. It’s such joys that make life beautiful.
Always,
Posh 💕
